Congratulations to Star Student, Lyle Cason and Star Teacher Tonya Jones! We are proud of you! This week the “Pennies for Patients” Campaign begins. For the next few weeks we will be participating in The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients program. This program teaches students the value of giving to others, while collecting funds for cancer research. Students join together to collect donations in the hopes of finding a cure for blood cancer, such as leukemia, which is the number one killer of children. Last year over 570 Georgia school came together and raised almost $535,000 to fund blood cancer research and provide services for patients and their families. In each classroom there is a jar to collect the pennies your child brings to school. Please understand that we are not asking your child to go door-to-door collecting money. We are simply asking for your spare change to make a difference in the life of a child. Each penny counts towards research. There are over 3,000 people in Georgia who a living with blood cancer so thank you in advance for helping your child to be a part of Pennies for Patients. For more information on The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society visit the website at www.LLS.org/ga and for more information on Pennies for Patients, please visit www.schoolandyouth.org/ga. The 6th-8th grade math classes are sponsoring the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Math-A-Thon. If you would like to make a donation, please do so before February 15th.
